I wanted to do a tribute to two of my labradors, Maggie, a tan lab, and Rufus, a chocolate lab. At first I was going to have them sitting side by side. I lived with the model for a couple of weeks and thought it would be interesting to see them stacked somehow. I finally decided on Maggie doing a hand stand off Rufus’s front legs. Maggie and Rufus had this way of mumbling to each other, not a bark and not a growl, but more of a babbling sound. So my wife, Tammy, started calling them the Blabadors. I hope you enjoy the sculpture as much as I did building it!
The Amazing Blabadors: Maggie & Rufus was a part of Sculpture Walk Springfield’s second collection. It was placed outside of the Expo Center on St. Louis Ave. in Springfield, MO from April 2017 to March 2018.
I donated The Amazing Blabadors: Maggie & Rufus to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri on October 11, 2018. I’m so happy that this memorial sculpture of my beloved dogs will be a photo backdrop for pet adoption photos for years to come.
